Meet Our February Family of the Month: the Miller-Kolotkins
We first attended Beth Sholom for Rosh Hashanah services in 1973, shortly after moving from the East Coast. We were drawn to the Conservative service and Rabbi Saul White’s inspiring oratory, and in 1978 we became full members of the congregation.
Our family’s milestones have been deeply intertwined with Congregation Beth Sholom. Our son, Aaron, celebrated his bar mitzvah here in 1991, and in 1993 Betty marked her bat mitzvah as part of the first adult women’s B’not Mitzvah group. In the years since, Betty has revisited her Rosh Chodesh or Re’eh Haftarah readings for the congregation. Marvin began attending Torah classes with Rabbi Lew (of blessed memory) in the 1990s and has continued his learning ever since — now studying with Marilyn Heiss on Tuesday mornings and with a local study group on Friday mornings via Zoom.
Betty & Marvin cherish the many opportunities for learning that Beth Sholom provides, whether with fellow congregants, invited rabbis, or guest lecturers. They especially enjoy the music programs and Rabbi Russell’s leadership of our services, as well as the wide range of activities that bring together members of all ages.
Our favorite holiday is Rosh Hashanah, made even more special by Betty’s brisket and holiday treats, which we love sharing with our family in Marin. Marvin and Betty are retired physicians and enjoy staying active by walking the JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park.
