CHICKEN SOUPERS

Every month presents an opportunity to do a mitzvah with the Chicken Soupers in cooporation with Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS).

There are three ways to get involved: cooking in the Beth Sholom kitchen at 9:00 a.m., packing meals at 2:30 p.m., or delivering throughout the city at 3:30 p.m.

  • Who are the Chicken Soupers?

Beth Sholom Chicken Soupers was started in the late ‘80s at the height of the AIDS crisis – providing nourishing, volunteer-cooked kosher meals for AIDS Project clients of Jewish Family and Children’s Services. When medicine and prevention improved, and the caseload decreased, Disability Project clients were welcomed to the rolls.

  • Why Become a Chicken Souper?

This impactful program is rewarding for volunteers and recipients alike. Take it from these participants:

“I receive much more than I can ever give back. It’s a real privilege to be let into their lives.”

“I have been a monthly delivery person for almost 30 years and it is high on my list of the most meaningful ways I use my time and energy.”

  • Are There Other Ways to Support?

For all of these years, financial support for Chicken Soupers has come from the Beth Sholom community — in trickles and chunks, from individuals and families, ‘just because’ and in memory of a loved one. Donate here help us to buy groceries and packaging (and some little treats) so that we can continue to cook and pack and hand a brimming bag of Jewish communal care and concern over the doorsteps of those who need us.
