For more than 400 families, CBS is a spiritual home — a place of solace, contemplation, elation, song, and discovery.

Our Membership Year is July 1 through June 30.

  • Recognizing that there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all Judaism, we provide a variety of paths for people to become engaged, explore their practice of Judaism, and celebrate our Jewish traditions.

    Congregation Beth Sholom’s offerings include a religious school, educational programs, regular minyans (prayer services), meditation, and many community groups that inspire and give back to our congregation and the Bay Area at large. In addition, we have a thriving preschool that adds immeasurably to the vitality of our community.

    We would be happy to discuss ways you can participate in our vibrant congregation. CBS is ready to contribute positively to your life, and there are myriad ways for you to engage with CBS and the larger community.     • The privilege of pastoral care, including the counsel and support of our clergy for lifecycle events (Brit Millah, Baby Naming, Weddings, etc.) and in times of difficulty and bereavement

  • Congregation Beth Sholom raises the majority of its operating funds from ongoing financial commitments of its members. Being a member of our congregation means pledging this kind of support so we can serve you, your family and the entire community, today and into the future. Membership commitment levels are found below. New members will be contacted by the Director of Membership after their application is submitted.

    For those who are able, we invite you to join our Parnas fellowship. These contributions provide a more solid foundation for the Congregation and form the backbone of our membership support.

Membership Pledge Categories

Children under 26 are considered part of the household and therefore incur no additional cost.

  • Associate

    1 Adult: $1,050 annually ($88 monthly)
    2 Adults: $1,975 annually ($165 monthly)

    An Associate Member is one who is affiliated with another synagogue or lives outside of the Bay Area. Associate membership is 50% of the base membership rate. Please note that High Holy Days tickets are not included in Associate Membership.

  • Youngish

    1 Adult: $1,150 annually ($96 monthly)
    2 Adults: $1,800 ($150 monthly)

    This discounted membership is reserved for young individuals and couples without children.

    1 Adult: $2,100 annually ($175 monthly)
    2 Adults: $3,950 annually ($330 monthly)

    Includes:

    • Yahrzeit reminder emails

    • Ability to vote at annual meetings

    • Priority preschool admissions (must be member for >6 months prior to application)

    • High Holy Days tickets (not included with Associate level)

    • Ability to join committees and community groups (social justice, Chicken Soupers)

    • Ability to contribute one-time donations

    • Discounts on programming and facility rentals

    • Access to digital archives (Rabbi Lew materials + digitized archive etc) — work in progress

    $6,300 annually ($525 monthly)

    Includes all Sustaining benefits, plus:

  • Parnas Bonim (Builders)

    $9,500 annually ($792 monthly)

    $14,400 annually ($1,200 monthly)
