Starting on October 6th the Shabbat Afternoon Shiur will be back in session!
The Shiur will be lead by Henry Hollander. We will be studying selections from Midrash Rabbah for the Parshah of the Week. Midrash is a style of Torah commentary that goes back to the early times of the Rabbis. It is a something like the kinds of drashes that they would give in the early synagogues.
Most people don't think that they know much about Midrash but many of the stories that most of us think we know from the Torah actually come from the Midrash. Midrash is not one thing or one approach. It is a kind of a by-any-means-necessary struggle for a fuller understanding of the Biblical story. It can get weird. It is almost always playful, but it is never dry or dull. Come and learn.
DATE: Starting Saturday, October 6
TIME: 5-6 p.m., followed by Mincha through November 3, and moving to 4-5 p.m. on November 10, after the end of daylight saving time.
