Meet Our May Family of the Month: The Pollaks
In August 2025, Josh (42) and Freda (35), along with their daughters Talia (5) and Delilah (2), officially became part of the Beth Sholom community — though in many ways, it felt like they were meant to be there all along.
They had often passed Beth Sholom in the neighborhood, curious but not yet connected. Then one ordinary day at Iggy’s turned into something more. Adam Lowy, Beth Sholom’s Lifelong Learning Moreh Derech, noticed Josh’s dad’s “Saba” hat and struck up a conversation. What began as a simple comment quickly felt like kismet — one of those small, serendipitous moments that quietly changed the course of a family’s story.
Since then, Beth Sholom has become woven into their weekly rhythm. Tot Shabbat, Shabbat School, and the genuine sense of community have anchored their family’s Jewish life. There’s something powerful about walking into a space where their girls feel at home and where friendships are forming naturally.
Jewish holidays are a big part of their family joy. Passover is especially beloved, as they spend the entire week surrounded by extended family. Talia and Delilah also delight in lighting the Hanukkah candles, spinning the dreidel, and savoring chocolate gelt. Celebration comes easily in their home — which is fitting, since the girls share the very same birthday, exactly three years apart (a total surprise!).
Their home is filled with tradition and personality. Josh is known for making an excellent brisket, and Freda still carries her love of Hebrew from her high school days, when she chose it as her language of study. What started as a chance encounter has grown into a meaningful chapter for their family — one built on connection, tradition, and the joy of raising their daughters within a vibrant Jewish community.
