Annabel Coplan’s Bat Mitzvah

Annabel Coplan, a seventh grader at The San Francisco Friends School, will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on November 22nd, for Parshat Toldot. A member of Congregation Beth Sholom and the youth learning program along with her younger brother Leo, Annabel is excited to celebrate this special milestone with her family, friends, and community.

Annabel enjoys reading, discovering new recipes to make for dinner, playing volleyball, and spending time with friends. She also loves baking and hosting bake sales in Duboce Park on sunny weekends. Annabel enjoyed preparing for her Bat Mitzvah, including the exploration of the Torah and the Hebrew language.

Annabel’s Parsha, “Toldot,” means “Generations” and describes the sibling rivalry and adventurous lives of Esau and Jacob. Her drash focuses on the love between parents and children, and how people show affection for others in many different ways.

Annabel would like to thank Rabbi Russell for her mentorship in exploring the Torah throughout this journey, Marilyn Heiss for her inspirational weekly tutoring sessions, Adam Lowy for being the empathetic leader of learning at Beth Sholom, and all the Beth Sholom teachers for making this community such a wonderful part of her life.
