villains: Characters the Rabbis Love to Hate
A Beit Midrash Series by Congregation Beth Sholom and Hadar
The Beit Midrash has for centuries been one of the spiritual and intellectual centers of Jewish life. It is the place our people have gathered together to pour over sacred texts, debate their meaning and application, and emerge with wisdom to guide Jewish living.
Our Hanukkah learning with scholar-in-residence Rabbi David Kasher, lit the fire of Beit Midrash-style learning, and we are keeping the flame alive. On the second week of the month, February through May 2024, we will gather at Beth Sholom to study some of the wildest stories in rabbinic literature, and to learn the art of classical Beit Midrash study. Check the schedule for exact dates and times. We'll start with a brief introduction, break out into hevruta (study partners), and then return to a full group discussion.
All are welcome, and there's no background necessary!
Four sessions — FREE and open to the community, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
