CBS creates opportunities for contemporary Jews, along with their loved ones and friends, to share authentic and meaningful religious and spiritual experiences. We aim to build and sustain a community empowered to make a positive difference in the world.
Community is at the center of Jewish life and of everything we do at Beth Sholom. We believe in the transformative power of fellowship, so we work hard to foster communal connections. We also believe that a community must be diverse in order to flourish. The diversity of the CBS community reflects the heterogeneity of klal Yisrael (all of the Jewish community).
Balance of Tradition & Innovation
(HALACHA V’ SHINUI)
As a Conservative synagogue, we follow in a long line of innovators who treasured Jewish tradition, yet also celebrated the dynamic, ever-evolving nature of Judaism and Jewish peoplehood. We strive to balance the steadfastness of tradition with the evolving needs of modern life, and believe this creative tension contributes to the vibrancy of our community.
Teaching & Learning
CBS is committed to making the richness of Jewish thought relevant to modern life. Our leaders are well-versed in Torah, and help members of our community meaningfully engage the Jewish canon through both traditional and innovative lenses. We provide teaching for every age group.
Egalitarianism & Equality (SHIVYON)
We are welcoming and accessible to all members of our community. We encourage active and full participation in our services and programs, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or age.
Importantly, CBS celebrates that no single approach to Judaism fits all. Personal choice is respected and the diversity of our community is nurtured. We also pride ourselves on being a safe and welcoming space for community members of all sexual orientations and gender expressions. For more than 350 households, Congregation Beth Sholom is home.
