Join us at Shabbat services on September 21 for a special bimah dialogue between Rabbi Dan Ain and Rabbi Michael Lezak, staff rabbi of Memorial United Methodist Church in the Tenderloin (though he considers himself more of a shaliach from the Jewish community).
DATE: Saturday, September 21
TIME: 9 a.m.
About Rabbi Lezak
At Glide, Rabbi Lezak has launched some inspiring new initiatives, from challah baking in Glide’s kitchen to a joint trip of Jewish community members and Glide staff to visit the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Alabama, which commemorates African American victims of lynching.
In the past year a group of 10 Beth Sholom families participated in a pilot project at Glide, learning with Rabbi Lezak about the Tenderloin community through a Jewish lens and volunteering on a monthly basis, serving lunch at Glide’s meal program. As a kehilla kedosha (holy community), complementing the Chicken Soupers and Scheninah work at CBS, we will be organizing a group volunteer opportunity one Sunday per month at Glide. Stay tuned for more details and instructions to sign up.
For more about Rabbi Lezak and Glide, see this wonderful profile in Tablet Magazine. We hope to see you on the 21st to learn more about social justice work at Glide, and how you can get involved through Beth Sholom’s new Chesed Va-Tzedek group.
