Megillah Gras In Pictures

The CBS community filled our campus yesterday afternoon and evening, turning out en masse for Megillah Gras: Community Purim Fundraiser To Benefit CBS Education. We played, danced, ate, drank, and grogged together into the night, toasting a temporarily inverted world. The shared enthusiasm and warmth of the event was palpable; our hearts are full.

Special thanks to the many volunteers -- from United Synagogue Youth (USY) teens to CBS elder statesmen (and women!) -- who staffed carnival games, ran the food counter, bartended, and helped Executive Chef Jane Sykes in the kitchen! Thanks, too, to the CBS Family Preschool parents and Shabbat School parents who hustled on behalf of CBS education by successfully soliciting so many great prizes for the Megillah Gras raffles and silent auction, and also to those who helped the CBS staff plan the event. Todah rabbah (thank you very much)!

Megillah Gras wouldn't have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the entire CBS staff, of course, but Dale Kleisley, Assistant Director of Early Childhood Education, deserves a special shout-out for leading the Purim charge! Kol HaKavod, Dale!

Introducing the Good Shab-Box!

Our jobs, extracurricular commitments, and day-to-day chores keep us incredibly busy — too busy for our own good, according to physicians, sociologists, and rabbis. We’re aware of this unfortunate reality, but we generally shrug it off as the new normal. We’re hyper-connected and hyper-busy…and what is there for it?

GoodShabbox Well, CBS has a little something. Introducing Good Shab-Box! It’s no cure-all, but this is the real-deal happy meal!

Good Shab-Box! makes sit-down Shabbat dinners with your loved ones super easy. No cooking necessary!

CBS Executive Chef Jane Sykes is doing all the work, crafting Shabbat feasts that will delight your tummy, buoy your spirits, and generally put you in a Shabbat state of mind! She crafts these feasts...and then pops them in a box with your name on it! All you have to do is swing by CBS between 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. on select Fridays (kicking off February 19) to pick up a delicious Shabbat dinner to go! (And if you’d like to attend Kabbalat Shabbat services before you head home for dinner, no problem! We'll have your Good Shab-Box! waiting for you following services.)

Each Good Shab-Box! package includes:

  • One main entree
  • One savory side entree
  • Salad with dressing
  • One dessert
  • Card with Shabbat blessing printed in Hebrew, English, and transliteration
  • Reheating instructions (each meal is provided cold or at room temperature)

What do these boxes of Shabbat goodness cost?

$25 per person (full meal)
$15 per person (entree only -- main and side)
$70 per family of 4 (2 adults; 2 kid-size portions)
$5 to add challah

Look for details about each Good Shab-Box! offering in our HaLuach weekly newsletter, or email the CBS office with any questions.

Let Jane Create The Feast Of Your Dreams!

JaneSykes_KitchenBecause CBS has an on-site kosher kitchen facility with our very own Executive Chef, we are able to create custom menus for Shabbat kiddush luncheons and other catered events. We invite you to work with Executive Chef Jane Sykes to create the feast of your dreams!

Sample menus are available by request, but Jane will even recreate your favorite family recipes. (We know, we know — no one can make rugelach like your bubbe, but we think you’d be surprised how close Jane can get!)

Why sponsor a kiddush? Because it is a thoughtful way to honor a loved one or to mark a life cycle simcha, but any significant event is worthy of celebrating with community: birthdays, anniversaries, yahrzeits, graduations — or maybe you just feel especially great about your latest Candy Crush score.

You can sponsor a kiddush yourself (partial and full sponsorship options are available), or you can “team up” with friends or other families to co-sponsor one. All sponsorship is acknowledged on our printed Kabbalat Shabbat and Shabbat materials and announced during both services.

To learn more about pricing or to inquire about dates and availability, please contact Jane.
