Rabbi Hyman is available for counseling and guidance at any stage of
your relationship, engagement or wedding plans. Finding a rabbi to
officiate at the most intimate moments of your life is no easy choice
(even the flowers take great consideration). We encourage you to
arrange a time to meet as a couple with Rabbi Hyman and learn
about his style and approach and for him to learn a little about you
(dating never ends. . .) Traditionally couples have an aufruf on a Shabbat (or Monday or Thursday when the Torah also is read) prior to the wedding. An aufruf (calling up) is a celebratory aliyah to the Torah, where you and your partner will say a blessing before and after the Torah reading. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your marriage with the Jewish community and all of Israel, as expressed in the seven wedding blessings. As a conservative rabbi, Rabbi Hyman officiates at weddings of two Jewish people. If you are a couple where one person is Jewish DO NOT STOP READING. Our community is sincere in its genuine desire to serve all people, especially ones that are trying to bring Judaism into their lives. If you do not know much about Jewish weddings and would like to learn more, see The New Jewish Wedding, by Anita Diamant. To make an appointment to talk to Rabbi Hyman, please call the office and talk to Jill Pettegrew, assistant to the clergy at 415.221.8736, ext. 101. |
