Join us as we appreciate the members of the Congregation Beth Sholom community with a special Shabbat service and Kiddush.


II. DINE & DWELL: SUKKOT DINNER

Friday, October 14, 2011
Join us as we celebrate Sukkot under a full harvest moon. We begin with a musical Shabbat Sukkot welcome, followed by a traditional evening service while our children have a story, songs and Kiddush in the Sukkah. We then join together around the Sukkah to eat, drink, learn, and revel as community. Finally, our children will fulfill the mitzvah of dwelling in the Sukkah with a sleepover and treats! This special event is for old and young to celebrate together.

IV. HANUKKAH HAVDALLAH

An evening of community, Chinese food, and movies for all ages.

During the day, volunteers are needed at St. Anthony's and the SPCA Holiday Event at Macy's Union Square. Please help out!

For the whole month of December, we will have a San Francisco Food Bank barrel on-site as part of the SF Food Bank: Perfect Gift holiday drive. Your contributions will help provide all the fixings for nutritious holiday meals for thousands of needy singles, families, and seniors in our community. 


V. MEDITATION SHABBATON

Friday, January 13—Saturday, January 14, 2012
Co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Sholom and Makor Or. Norman Fischer leads a Shabbat-long meditation intensive.

Tap into inner peace by practicing silent eating, silent sitting and silent walking.  Settle yourself in the spirit of Shabbat and restore your soul as you listen to Torah teachings and sing niggunim (melodies). Join Rabbi Micah Hyman, Norman Fischer and Rabbi Dorothy Richman for a special Shabbat retreat, held at Congregation Beth Sholom. No previous knowledge of meditation, Hebrew or prayer is required. Norman Fischer is cofounder, with Rabbi Alan Lew (z”l), and spiritual leader of Makor Or. He is also a Zen master, a poet and founder of Everyday Zen.

Rabbi Dorothy Richman teaches widely in the Bay Area and coordinates a weekly Jewish meditation session in the East Bay. She has served as rabbi at Berkeley Hillel, Congregation Sha’ar Zahav, and Congregation Beth Sholom with her mentor, Rabbi Alan Lew, z""l."

VI. SHABBAT SHIRAH

Friday, February 3
Please join us as we welcome Hazzan Annelise Ocanto, from the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in New York, where she studies sacred music. Annelise will lead a special musical Kabbalat Shabbat playing the cuarto (four stringed guitar) and singing Sephardic melodies. We will follow services with a community oneg and celebration of Shabbat and song.

VII. SHUSHAN PURIM CIRCUS

Sunday, March 11
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
OK, so it’s not “Shabbat,” but it’s Purim! The 3rd Annual CBS circus with performers, games, and yummy food.

Join us for carnival games, a costume parade and…Dante’s amazing acrobat show!

Also featuring:

  • Raffle with fantastic prizes
  • Pizza, wine and hamentashen for sale at the Shushan Snack Shack

Cost: $20 per family; $10 per individual
All proceeds benefit the Congregation Beth Sholom Family Preschool Fund

“Everyone must experience Passover as if you were taken out of Egypt.” — Haggadah
Come celebrate the Exodus to freedom with community at Congregation Beth Sholom.
We will recount the Haggadah, share personal stories, and drink four cups of wine to
our redemption. All ages are welcome.

Cost Members:
Adults, $60; children ages 5–12, $30; toddlers ages 2–4, $18; no charge for babies

Cost Nonmembers:
Adults, $65; children ages 5–12, $35; toddlers ages 2–4, $20; no charge for babies

Lodging Options:
Cabins - rooms for up to six (6) people, twin beds and bunks. Private bathroom. Need minimum of four (4) people to reserve a cabin. 
Motels - rooms for two (2) to four (4) people with double beds, two single beds or bunks. Private bathroom. Need minimum of two people to reserve motel rooms.

*If you would like us to pair you up with a roommate, please indicate when you register.
