Holocaust Remembrance Day
Yom Ha'Shoah is a day that has been established to commemorate the lives of the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. It is observed on Nissan 27, just days after Pesach, on the anniversary day in the Hebrew calendar of the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. In Israel it is a normal work day, but all activity stops briefly for a moment in mid-morning while sirens are sounded throughout the country. A moment of silence follows, in which all activity ceases.
Beth Sholom has had many members over the years who are survivors of the Holocaust. Some of our members survived concentration camps and forced labor camps, while many more survived the Shoah as refugees. With the passing of those generations, Beth Sholom has many members who are the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of survivors. Join us as we remember.
