SF USY is the San Francisco chapter of
United Synagogue's high school youth group. Most of our members are
affiliated with local Conservative synagogues B'nai Emunah and Beth
Sholom. However, we are open to all Jewish teens (9th through 12th
grade) who would like to join.
USY gives teens a chance to learn and grow as Jews and most of all to have fun. Teens learn about Judaism and Israel, do social action projects, give tzedakah, and enjoy other social programming or just hanging out. USY is organized by teens, who plan and run the events with the assistance of an experienced Youth Advisor, and the support of parents and the wider synagogue communities. We meet at least once a month, generally from October through June. SF USY's main goals are to encourage lasting Jewish friendships, to help the community at large through the mitzvot of tzedakah (righteous giving) and gemilut chasidim (good deeds), and of course, to have a great time while doing it! SF USY is part of the New Frontier region, which consists of more than a dozen chapters from Fresno to San Jose to the Sierras, and everywhere in between. In addition to planning inter-chapter events, the chapters all come together for regional events (like our yearly convention). These regional events give our USYers the opportunity to meet and form friendships with a web of Jewish teens across the state!
From sunrise at the Grand Canyon to sunset over Jerusalem, experience the world with USY.
