Conversion
If you are thinking about converting to Judaism, the first step is to make an appointment to meet with Rabbi Hyman. To schedule an appointment, please contact Jill Pettegrew in the synagogue office at 415.221.8736, ext. 101, or JPettegrew@bethsholomsf.org.

Our conversion program includes attendance at our "Introduction to Judaism" course, which meets twice a month from October 2009 to May 2010. If you are unable to make the class, you are welcome to meet privately with an educator that we recommend.

In addition to the course, candidates have an individual meeting with Rabbi Hyman. After going through a year of living Jewishly-experiencing the full cycle of holidays-when the candidate is ready to do so, he or she will go through the conversion ritual at the mikveh after meeting with a beit din. If you are beginning this process when the class is not in session, you may still meet with Rabbi Hyman and explore the diversity of Jewish life in the Bay Area, so that you may find the community that best suits you. Then you can join the class when it begins again.
